These two maps by the 2010 Census reporting team show that Black populations retain high numbers in inner cities, suburbs, and the South. But some African American groups are making their way out of traditional regions to settle in rural, low-density counties. Use the slider to scroll the map to compare 2010’s high percentage black populations with places that saw black population percentages change significantly from 2000 to 2010.
